Another side trip today

This is an old Japanese American internment camp used during World War II that is just North of Lone Pine. It is run by the National Park Service now. Japanese Americans some citizens some not were viewed as disloyal so they were all shipped to camps like this throughout the West. Very sad chapter in American history made worse by the fact that the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of it. And it was clearly unconstitutional. The camp was gigantic 99% of the buildings are all gone but a few of them either rebuilt or replaced. The monolith with Japanese writing is at the cemetery just outside of camp. There are lots of mementos left behind by descendants of the camp residents. There was something like ten thousand people living here at its peak.
